Lofgren Announces Upcoming Hearing on January 6 Attack
San Jose, Calif. – Committee on House Administration Chairperson Zoe Lofgren (D-Calif.) today announced the Committee will hold an additional hearing with U.S. Capitol Police (USCP) Inspector General Michael A. Bolton after he delivered a fourth flash report to USCP oversight committees today. The latest report identified significant deficiencies pertaining to the Department’s Containment and Emergency Response Team and First Responders Unit and made more than 20 recommendations. In addition, the latest flash report notes that some of the Inspector General’s findings raised such significant and troubling concerns that he separately provided an urgent advisory to Department leadership before the full report was complete. The upcoming hearing will be the Committee’s fifth public hearing investigating the January 6 attack, more than any other committee in Congress.
“Despite Senate Republicans’ shameful filibuster of a compromise, bipartisan bill to establish an independent commission to investigate the deadly insurrection and attack on the Capitol, the American people deserve answers. The Committee on House Administration will move forward on those matters within its jurisdiction to fulfill oversight responsibilities. This has included the review of the findings of U.S. Capitol Police Inspector General Bolton. His latest flash report reveals, again, disturbing inadequacies in the Department leadership’s preparation for, and response to, the January 6 attack. Examining these latest findings and recommendations will assist the Committee as we contemplate reforms.”
