Lofgren Statement on Republican Filibuster of the Freedom to Vote Act

Press Release

Washington, D.C. – Committee on House Administration Chairperson Zoe Lofgren (D-Calif.) issued the following statement today after Senate Republicans filibustered legislation to protect our freedom to vote by making sure voting options are equally accessible across all 50 states, reducing the scourge of dark money in our politics, and prohibiting partisan gerrymandering:

“Throughout our history, our nation has fought to advance justice and extend the right to vote to ensure that every eligible American is able to cast their vote and have it counted. Today, however, Republican-led state legislatures across the nation are rushing to enact anti-voter bills to deny Americans their freedom to vote and create deliberate barriers to the ballot.

“Senator Manchin and others have worked tirelessly to find common ground and compromise across the aisle, only to find none. It is profoundly disappointing that the minority party, through unyielding obstructionism, is empowered to dictate the agenda of the United States Senate. It’s time to restore democracy to the Senate and send the Freedom to Vote Act to the President’s desk to ensure that every voice is heard and our elections reflect the will of the American people.”
