Brady Commemorates National Voter Registration Day

Press Release

September 24, 2013 (Washington, D.C.) Committee on House Administration Ranking Member, Robert Brady (D-PA) remarked on the importance of National voter registration Day.

“Nothing is more fundamental in a democracy than our right to vote, but the last few years have seen an all-out assault on that right,” said Brady. “Republican governors and legislatures have passed unnecessary Voter ID laws and purged thousands of eligible voters from the rolls. The Supreme Court’s decision to cut the Voting Rights Act ensures that even more outrageous laws will be enacted, especially in states with a history of electoral discrimination.”

“I am a proud supporter of National Voter Registration Day. Ensuring every eligible citizen is able to register and cast a ballot is the best way to defend the right to vote. All citizens should take a few moments to register today, or ensure that their registration information is current. Checking in September will prevent problems in November.”
