Brady Commends Senate for Confirmation of FEC Commissioners
September 23, 2013 (Washington, D.C.) Today the Senate confirmed two new Commissioners to the Federal Elections Commission (FEC). Ann Miller Ravel of California will serve on the Commission until April 30, 2017 while Lee E. Goodman of Virginia will serve until April 30, 2015. The new Commissioners were appointed by President Obama on June 24, 2013. Today’s confirmations filled the FEC’s two vacant Commissioner positions.
Commissioner Ravel comes to the FEC from her former role as Chair of the California Fair Political Practices Commission. She also spent time with the Department of Justice as Deputy Assistant Attorney General for Torts and Consumer Litigation in the Civil Division. Commissioner Goodman is an election lawyer most recently with the Washington D.C. firm LeClairRyan.
“It’s great to see the Senate take action on these nominations,” said Committee on House Administration Ranking Member, Robert Brady (D-PA). “The FEC has become a dysfunctional agency. Partisan gridlock has left the commission unable to perform even its most basic functions. I look forward to working with the new Commissioners as they work to ensure the integrity of our campaign finance laws.”
