Brady Statement on House Operations During Government Shutdown
October 1, 2013 (Washington, D.C.) Today, Committee on House Administration Ranking Member, Robert Brady (D-PA) made the following Statement regarding the government shutdown.
“Shutting down the government over a political disagreement is nothing short of shameful. The effects are real. Basic government services, on which millions of Americans rely, have come to a halt. This manufactured crisis will hurt the economy and cost taxpayers millions of dollars. House Democrats opposed this shutdown from the start, and will continue working through this crisis to reopen the people’s government.
As we work to resolve the situation, the Committee on House Administration will continue to assist and support Members as they fulfill their Constitutional obligations. The Committee has approved guidelines for operations, and staff is available to assist with any questions. Resuming regular operations must be Congress’s top priority, and Committee Democrats will do all we can to assist our colleagues in this effort.”
