Chairperson Zoe Lofgren and Ranking Member Rodney Davis Welcome 14th Smithsonian Secretary
WASHINGTON, DC – Committee on House Administration Chairperson Zoe Lofgren (D-Calif.) and Ranking Member Rodney Davis (R-Ill.) issued the following statement congratulating the founding director of the Smithsonian's National Museum of African American History and Culture, Lonnie G. Bunch III, on being named the 14th Secretary of the Smithsonian.
“We are delighted to welcome Lonnie Bunch in this new appointment as the 14th Secretary of the Smithsonian. He is an extremely qualified choice for this position, not only for being a well-renowned historian but also for having more than 35 years of experience in the museum field. We are confident he will continue to benefit the Smithsonian tremendously in this new position and congratulate him on this historic appointment as the first historian and the first African American to lead the Smithsonian. We look forward to working closely with him through the committee's oversight capacity and seeing his upcoming contributions to America's prized institution.”

The Committee on House Administration (CHA) was established in 1947 as part of a larger effort to streamline the U.S. House of Representatives' committee system and to modernize its internal management and operations. In addition to CHA’s oversight of federal elections and House operations, the Committee is responsible for oversight of the Library of Congress, the House Library, the Botanic Gardens, and the Smithsonian Institution.
