Ranking Republican on House Admin Says Democrats' Continued Failure to Publicly Release Legislation Completely Undermines Speaker's Promise of Transparency

WASHINGTON - Today, the Committee on House Administration's Ranking Republican Dan Lungren, R-Calif., issued the following statement on the Democrats' failure to release the final text of the DISCLOSE Act before tomorrow's floor consideration:

"Sadly, the best way to study the details of this bill's provisions and to learn about the authors' latest negotiations allocating the right to free speech is to read about them in the newspaper.

"Their continued reluctance to release legislation in time to allow public scrutiny is a deceptive practice that completely undermines the Speaker's promise to operate the 'most honest, most open and most ethical Congress in history.' Democrats should allow Congress and every American adequate time to fully understand the consequences of their legislative proposals before Members vote on them."
