Press Release

House Administration Committee Ranking Member Robert Brady released the following statement on the Schweikert Amendment, which would amend the Commerce, Justice, and Science Appropriations Act of 2013 to prohibit funds for the Department of Justice to bring any action against any State for how it implements a Voter I.D. law:

“Not satisfied with merely infringing upon the right to vote, some Republicans are now trying to prevent the Justice Department from investigating and prosecuting potentially serious civil rights violations.

Just when we thought we reached the height of absurdity in their continued assault on voting rights, we have once again been surprised by the lengths they will go to suppress the vote.”
