WASHINGTON - Committee on House Administration Ranking Member Rodney Davis (R-Ill.) issued the statement following House Republicans prevailing with Democrats agreeing to come back to the table and form a bipartisan working group, including Davis, to review vote by proxy and remote proceedings in the House. This comes after Democrats unveiled a proxy voting proposal today to authorize remote voting by proxy in the House of Representatives and provide for official remote committee proceedings, which the Speaker would have forced a vote on tomorrow. Instead of the ill-conceived vote on Democrats' partisan voting proposal, the newly agreed-upon bipartisan working group will include the Chairs and Ranking Members from the House Administration Committee and House Rules Committee, and the House Majority and Minority Leaders.

"As I have said before, a proposal to change over 200 years of precedent for how Members of Congress vote cannot be forced through on a partisan basis. Any decision as important as changing how Congress can function during a national emergency must be done with bipartisan agreement. I'm grateful that the efforts made by Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy to hold the Democratic majority accountable have succeeded and will now bring them back to the table to work with us to study any remote voting or proceedings methods," said Ranking Member Davis. "The American people deserve their government to come together in a time of crisis to provide dire assistance through legislative support. I look forward to helping Congress continue its important duties to get Americans back to work and to once again strengthen our economy."
