SPRINGFIELD, IL - On Monday, February 24, 2020, at 9:00 a.m., Committee on House Administration's top Republican and Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Elections, U.S. Representative Rodney Davis (IL-13) will host a congressional listening session in Springfield, IL, to discuss the state's recent election administrative errors with Automatic Voter Registration.
"Every American has the right to vote, including when serving overseas as deployed active duty military. Currently, our military serving overseas on posts not under the Department of Defense are unable to expedite their ballots to ensure arrival prior to election day." said Ranking Member Rodney Davis. "Counting All Military Votes Act will guarantee all of our military bravely serving overseas have access to expedited mailing of their ballots, so they can depend on their votes being counted and their voices being heard in our nation's elections."
WASHINGTON - Committee on House Administration Ranking Member Rodney Davis (R.Ill), along with fellow Committee Members Representatives Mark Walker (R-NC) and Barry Loudermilk (R-GA), issued the following statement upon sending a letter to Federal Voting Assistance Program (FVAP) Director David Beirne. The letter clarifies U.S.
"As Ranking Members of the House Committees on Homeland Security and House Administration, which have oversight jurisdiction over election security matters in the U.S. House of Representatives, we write to express our grave concern over the manner in which your company serviced the Iowa Democratic Caucus this past week."
"This breakdown shows why it is imperative that Congress act quickly to secure election technology that currently lacks the proper protections," said Ranking Member Davis. "I strongly urge the majority to take up my bill, the Protect American Voters Act, which is an easy solution to address this critical problem."
"While Democrats are busy trying to impeach President Trump and overturn the 2016 election, Republicans are working on real solutions to threats against our nation’s voting systems by empowering states with resources and expertise needed to protect the integrity of elections and the voices of American voters," said Representative Mark Walker
"Implying that Russia decided our elections just to get a few retweets is irresponsible and undermines American voters who decided both the last election and in 2016. Our voting machines were not hacked, and ballots were not altered by Russia. Implying otherwise can be seen as a political tool wielded to prevent American voters from trusting in their own election process. Instead of misleading tweets, I wish Speaker Pelosi would work with Republicans to pass the bipartisan reforms I have put forth."
"I am disappointed to see a program with such good intentions be so poorly administered,” said Ranking Member Davis. “Automatic Voter Registration has the potential to encourage more voter participation, but as we’ve seen, if it’s not carefully administered, it can have major consequences on the integrity of our elections. This egregious error further highlights the need for states to regularly update their registration rolls and how H.R. 1, which federally mandates processes like Automatic Voter Registration for every state, can have serious issues for states with even less infrastructure than Illinois. I’m planning to convene a listening session, through the Committee on House Administration, where I hope to hear from the IL Secretary of State about how he intends to solve this error and reassure Illinois voters that non-citizens are not being registered to vote.”
"I applaud the FBI for committing to keep our election officials informed if any of their election systems are breached by a foreign agent or any other hacker. This new policy, which is similar to what I introduced in my own bill, is a great step to ensuring our elections remain secure by increasing our communication between federal, state, and local jurisdictions and protecting the validity of election results," said Ranking Member Davis. "Our election stakeholders are taking action to protect American voters, and I hope our committee will be able to come together to amplify these efforts with strong, bipartisan election legislation."
