CHA Ranking Member Rodney Davis and House Judiciary Committee Ranking Member Doug Collins released a joint statement following Tuesday's Judiciary hearing: "House Democrats have reached a new low this Congress as they pretend to hold impeachment proceedings that their own majority and leadership haven’t authorized. Tuesday’s decision to allow an outside, private consultant to question a witness violates clear House committee rules, which say explicitly that consultants may not perform the duties of committee staff.
"The Democrats' decision to allow political consultants to serve as staff and question a witness, for six times the amount of time Members receive, in a flagrant attempt to attack the President is a blatant disregard of our committee regulations. I am both shocked and disappointed that the two Democratic Members who serve on both Judiciary Committee and CHA, especially the Chairperson, would vote against their own committee's rules."
"For all of the talk from Democrats about election security, they refuse to address the only election interference practice that actually resulted in a state refusing to certify their election results. I will continue to demand that Democrats take action to prevent all types of interference and fraud, not just the types that fit their political narrative. The integrity of our ballots is too important."
"It is essential that Members are able to effectively serve their constituents who elected them to represent their interests in Washington and ensuring the Cannon building is safe and functional is critical to that mission. However, our committee has the important responsibility to oversee that this process remains transparent and that we are safeguarding the tax dollars of hardworking Americans."
Davis seeks answers to the degree of partisanship, its potential hindrance of the Commission's mission, and the use of taxpayer resources being used to facilitate a partisan agenda through the FEC.
"I remain committed to ensuring that local election officials have every resource they need to provide for a secure election in 2020. Effective and focused oversight over the EAC is critically important in this mission."
