CHA Statement on Architect of the Capitol Stephen T. Ayers

WASHINGTON – Committee on House Administration Chairman Gregg Harper (MS-3) and Ranking Member Robert Brady (PA-1) issued the following statement after Stephen T. Ayers announced his intention to retire from his position as the 11th Architect of the Capitol (AOC) on November 24, 2018:
“Since 1997, Stephen Ayers has served this institution with the highest level of integrity and professionalism, including nearly 12 years as Acting Architect and Architect of the Capitol. Under his guidance, the AOC has achieved many important milestones, including the addition of the Capitol Visitors Center, much-needed extensive repairs to the U.S. Capitol building, integral security upgrades throughout the Capitol campus, as well as initiating the ongoing renovation of the Cannon House Office Building.
“We express our sincere gratitude for his outstanding service and dedication to the United States Congress, his careful stewardship of the United States Capitol buildings and grounds, as well as safeguarding our security. We wish him well in his future endeavors.”
