WASHINGTON - Today, Committee on House Administration Chairman Bryan Steil (WI-01) hosted a campus-wide security briefing to give staff and lawmakers tips on surviving crime amid the crime crisis in our nation's capitol. Local law enforcement officers, members of U.S. Capitol security staff, and Hill staff victims of crime gave testimony and provided insights.

Panelists:

Gregg Pemberton - D.C. Police Union Chairman
John Erickson - Acting Commander of the Uniformed Services Bureau
Jeanita Mitchell - Acting Commander of the Protective Services Bureau
Larry Cook - Assistant Sergeant at Arms for Police Services & Law Enforcement
Chad Beckket - Deputy Assistant Sergeant at Arms for Police Services and Law Enforcement
Congressman Anthony D'Esposito - U.S. Representative (NY-04)

Following the briefing, Chairman Steil released the following statement:

"Everyone deserves to feel safe, everyone," said Chairman Steil. "One of my top priorities is to ensure staffers, Members, and all visitors are safe in our nation's capitol.

"It is unfortunate we are having to discuss how to prevent daytime carjackings and burglaries. Violent crime is up 39%, 5,000 cars have been stolen this year, an average of 20-25 a day, and there have been 190 homicides so far this year. The reality is crime is skyrocketing in D.C., and it is impacting all who live and work on Capitol Hill."
