WASHINGTON - Committee on House Administration Chairman Bryan Steil (WI-01) has introduced the Pay Our Capitol Police Act, a bill to restore pay for Capitol Police officers and support staff during the ongoing government shutdown.

“The men and women of the United States Capitol Police continue to suffer the consequences of the Schumer Shutdown,” said Chairman Steil. “My legislation will provide critical relief to Capitol Police officers and personnel at a time when they are being forced to work without pay. It’s a shame Senate Democrats have voted more than dozen times to defund the police officers who keep visitors, staff, and members safe here at the Capitol." 

Background: 

The Committee on House Administration has oversight of the United States Capitol Police. Due to the government shutdown, officers have not received pay for the days they've worked since the beginning of the shutdown. This Friday, officers and staff will miss their third paycheck unless government funding is restored.  

Senator Tim Scott introduced identical legislation in the Senate. 

On September 19, the House of Representatives passed H.R. 5371, Continuing Appropriations and Extensions Act, by a bipartisan vote of 217 - 212. The legislation currently sits in the Senate, where it has failed on a recorded vote fourteen times.
