WASHINGTON – Committee on House Administration Chairman Gregg Harper (R-Miss.) today held a hearing examining the Library of Congress’ information technology (IT) management. Following the hearing, Chairman Harper said:

“I thank our witnesses who appeared at today’s hearing, Librarian Dr. Carla Hayden, the Library’s CIO Bernard Barton, and the Library’s IG Kurt Hyde. Each provided the Committee with detailed information on the measures the Library is taking to improve their management of the Library’s IT systems.

“Since Government Accountability Office (GAO) released its report, the Library has worked to address these recommendations. To date, five recommendations have been fully implemented to GAO’s satisfaction. As technology advances, so must the Library’s resources which support an array of constituencies. While their past efforts have made good progress, our committee looks forward to staying in close contact with the Library as they follow through on their commitment to an ambitious goal of closing an additional 22 recommendations by the end of this year.”
