WASHINGTON - Yesterday, Committee on House Administration Chairman Bryan Steil along with Subcommittee on Modernization Chairwoman Stephanie Bice and Ranking Member Derek Kilmer received a briefing from the Deputy Architect of the Capitol and Project Manager on the ongoing construction of the new ADA Drop-off / Pick-up Zone.

"The United States Capitol is The People's House and must be accessible for everyone," Chairman Steil said. "I'm thankful to my colleagues and the Architect of the Capitol for their hard work and dedication to this effort. I'm eager to see the completion of this project to help welcome more Americans to Congress."

“From the start of this Congress, creating a new ADA Pick-up / Drop-off Zone has been one of my top priorities,” Chairwoman Bice said. “As Subcommittee Chairwoman, I’m committed to making Congress more accessible to all Americans. I’m happy to see the progress being made on this important initiative.”

"Having a government of the people, by the people and for the people requires us to ensure that all people have access to their government," Ranking Member Kilmer said. "Thanks to the implementation of bipartisan recommendations by the Select Committee on the Modernization of Congress, we are making strides toward making the Capitol complex as open and accessible as possible for all Americans. While there’s more to do, the creation of a new ADA Drop-off / Pick-up Zone is a big step forward in ensuring that all persons with disabilities can access all buildings and spaces of their government."

The Committee on House Administration's Subcommittee on Modernization led the effort to create the ADA Pick-up and Drop-off Zone for the Capitol. The implementation of an ADA Pick-up and Drop-off Zone was based on a recommendation made by the House Select Committee on the Modernization of Congress. The ADA Pick-up and Drop-off Zone is one of many efforts the Subcommittee on Modernization has undertaken to make the Capitol campus more accessible for all visitors. Construction on the project began in August and is expected to be completed by December. As a part of the FY2024 Legislative Branch Appropriations, funding for a new Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Pick-up and Drop-off zone was approved for construction on the Capitol complex.
