WASHINGTON - Committee on House Administration Chairman Bryan Steil (WI-01) released the following statement after climate protestors vandalized an original sculpture at the National Gallery of Art:

"Violence and destruction of property are not First Amendment-protected speech. There are more productive ways to voice policy concerns and express frustration. Whether in Kenosha or Washington, D.C., I have consistently said that those wishing to exercise their First Amendment rights must follow the law.

"Unfortunately, yesterday's vandalization of an original Degas sculpture at the National Gallery of Art appears to be part of a growing trend by protestors. These childish stunts are unacceptable."

Background
Following yesterday's vandalism, multiple exhibits within the National Gallery of Art continue to be closed to the public until further notice. The Committee on House Administration has oversight jurisdiction over the museum.
