WASHINGTON - Committee on House Administration Chairman Bryan Steil (WI-01) issued subpoenas to five Biden Administration agency officials to sit for sworn depositions after their agencies failed to comply with a lawfully issued congressional subpoena to turn over their strategic plans to implement President Biden's Executive Order on Promoting Access to Voting.

"Americans deserve transparency and trust in their elections. However, the Biden Administration has refused to comply with a lawfully issued congressional subpoena and cooperate with our investigation into their plan to use federal agencies to 'get out the vote,'" Chairman Steil said. "These Biden Administration agencies failed to produce their strategic plans to implement Executive Order 14019 on multiple occasions. It's time that these officials explain to the Committee what is in these plans, and how their agencies are implementing their plans."

The subpoenas were sent to officials at the Department of Labor, the Department of Housing and Urban Development, Department of Health and Human Services, Department of Justice, and Department of Agriculture. Read the cover letters for the subpoenas here.

Background:
On July 30, 2024, Chairman Steil sent letters to the Department of Labor, the Department of Housing and Urban Development, Department of Health and Human Services, Department of Justice, and Department of Agriculture demanding the agencies share the Executive Order strategic plans after failing to comply with a lawfully issued congressional subpoena.

On June 13, 2024, Chairman Steil issued subpoenas to 15 Biden Administration agencies requesting their strategic plans and third-party communications related to President Biden's Executive Order 14019.

Chairman Steil initially requested documents related to the agencies' work on E.O. 14019 on May 15, 2024, but did not receive any agency's strategic plan.
