WASHINGTON  Today, Subcommittee on Modernization and Innovation Chairwoman Stephanie Bice (OK-05) and Ranking Member Norma Torres (CA-35) recommended a new Digital Signage and Wayfinding Initiative for Modernization Initiatives Account (MIA) funding. If approved, the funding would provide for the development of dynamic digital signage at nine public entrances in Rayburn, Cannon, and Longworth House Buildings. The signage would display daily committee schedules, Member office listings, and more. The funding would also provide for digital wayfinding tools with turn-by-turn directions to help visitors navigate the three primary House office buildings.

“Unlike many legislative bodies worldwide, the U.S. House of Representatives is completely and deliberately open to the public,” said Chairwoman Bice. “It is important that visitors to the People’s House can easily access the information they need to find and meet with their representatives, attend a committee hearing, or see what’s happening on the House floor. I am excited to submit this MIA request to secure the funding needed to get this important modernization initiative off the ground and I look forward to continuing our efforts to make the House work better for the American people.”

“This initiative will drastically improve the experience for visitors coming to the Capitol Hill. This new signage will help constituents find their Representative when navigating House Office Buildings and assist visitors in finding real-time information about committee hearings and public events,” added Committee on House Administration Chairman Bryan Steil (WI-01). “I applaud Chairwoman Bice’s ongoing work to improve accessibility on the Capitol campus.”

"By expanding accessible signage throughout the House, we're not just updating signs, we're declaring that every American, regardless of ability, has an equal right to witness democracy in action,” said Ranking Member Norma Torres. "If we truly believe this is the People's House, then we must ensure that visitors from across the country feel at home here. I believe this request will help make the business conducted in these buildings even more transparent and accessible than before.”

“I strongly believe that it is our responsibility to make the People’s House more accessible to our constituents,” added Committee on House Administration Ranking Member Joe Morelle (NY-25). “I thank my colleagues for working with me on this request and look forward to the next steps.”
