WASHINGTON: Today, the Committee on House Administration and the Communications Standards Commission announced new guidance allowing Member offices to compile and host on their official websites a "Community Resources List" of entities providing non-federal assistance or services for constituents.

"The Committee on House Administration is always working to improve how Members serve the American people," said Committee on House Administration Chairman Steil (WI-01). "This new guidance will benefit both constituents and staff by providing an easy reference point for additional services and support available in the community at large."

"Resolving our constituents’ concerns is a core responsibility in our roles as elected officials. The new Community Resources List will streamline efficiency in delivering results and connecting our communities with the answers they need in a non-partisan fashion. I am proud to work with Chairman Steil and Ranking Member Morelle on this effort that will make it easier for our communities to thrive," Communications Standards Commission Chairman Mike Carey (OH-15) said.

"The Community Resources List makes it simpler for people to find what they need in one centralized place,” said Committee on House Administration Ranking Member Joe Morelle (NY-25). "I’m proud to be part of this effort to modernize our systems so we can better serve the public."

Background:

The new guidance is based on a recommendation made by the Select Committee on the Modernization of Congress to provide Member offices with greater flexibility in responding to constituents seeking services or assistance that the federal government does not offer.

Placing an entity on a Community Resources List does not constitute an endorsement by the Member office or the U.S. House of Representatives, as the new guidance prohibits using official resources to advertise for or imply an endorsement of an entity’s services or products.
