WASHINGTON – Today, Committee on House Administration Chairman Candice Miller (R-MI) and Joint Committee of Congress on the Library Vice-Chairman Gregg Harper (R-Miss.) issued the following statement on the White House’s pick to serve as the next Librarian:

“The Librarian is trusted with overseeing one of our nation’s most treasured institutions. They have the important task of collecting, preserving and dispersing a vast collection of educational resources housed in the world’s largest library. For nearly three decades, the Library was led by Dr. James Billington, a champion who put his heart and soul into the institution. The next Librarian must be committed to building upon the institution’s tradition of the advancement of knowledge throughout the world. We look forward to hearing more from Dr. Carla D. Hayden as she makes her way through the Senate confirmation process.”
