WASHINGTON – Committee on House Administration Chairman Candice Miller (R-MI) today highlighted the new display planned for the walls of the tunnel between Rayburn House Office Building and the U.S. Capitol as a preview for offices in the House. In the video previewing the new display, Miller said:

“Earlier this year, I announced that a new display will be placed on the walls of the tunnel between the Rayburn House Office Building and the U.S. Capitol upon the completion of the tunnel’s renovation. Prior to the renovation, a flag from each state was on display through the tunnel. However, given the controversy surrounding confederate imagery, I decided to install a new display. This new display will be comprised of a print of the commemorative coin from each of the 50 states, the District of Columbia, and each of the territories. Each of these quarters will serve as a reminder of the ideals, landmarks, and unique identities that represent each state, while also highlighting the core values of freedom, liberty, and self-determination that unite us all.

“It is our freedoms, like the right to free speech and the right to assemble, that ignite the conversations and debates that lead to eventual solutions and the advancement of this nation – the greatest in the world. Congress is where our nation’s different perspectives come together as one so that we can find common ground for the common good. It’s our nation’s original motto engraved into the back of each of these coins that will be on display, E pluribus unum – out of many one – a motto that truly embodies the spirit of our great nation.

“Here is the coin that represents my home state of Michigan. As the Great Lakes State, our identity is deeply rooted in our great maritime culture and utmost respect for our magnificent Great Lakes. Just as Michigan’s quarter tells the unique story of my home state, each individual state coin will tell its own, coming together to portray our collective story of democracy, independence, and resolve that is uniquely American.
