Ranking Republican Calls on Democrats to Stop Backroom Deals for Special Interest Groups

WASHINGTON - Today, the Committee on House Administration's Ranking Republican Dan Lungren, R-Calif., issued the following statement after reports that the authors of the DISCLOSE Act have, once again, cut a backroom deal to carve-out an exemption accommodating even more Washington special interest groups:

"Without any regard to the important responsibility of the Congress to uphold the Constitution, Democrats continue to broker backroom deals that inequitably grant free speech rights to some while denying others.

"Democrats must stop auctioning off First Amendment rights. The rights recognized in our Constitution are not ours to deny or grant, only to protect."
