Chairman Miller with U.S. Capitol Police Chief Verderosa

WASHINGTON – Committee on House Administration Chairman Candice Miller (R-MI) today held a hearing on the current state of the United States Capitol Police. The Committee heard from the new U.S. Capitol Chief of Police, Matthew Verderosa, regarding the U.S. Capitol Police’s budget priorities, recent security events and respective actions taken. Additionally, Chief Verderosa addressed the U.S. Capitol Police’s security initiatives, both current and future. Following the hearing, Chairman Miller said:

“The U.S. Capitol Police is a law enforcement agency with a very unique mission. The force is charged with protecting and serving the U.S. Capitol, the seat of our nation’s democracy. The Capitol Complex and the institution of Congress are physical symbols of our free society, and the fact remains that we face threats from numerous directions. Our Committee thanks Chief Verderosa for his testimony today before the Committee on the progress that has been made with ongoing security initiatives to keep the campus and all those who work and visit here safe. The Chief also shared with the Committee his vision to continue to develop the force – working with every level of officer and management to put in place the best solutions for safety and security. Our Committee works with the Capitol Police on a daily basis to ensure that they have the tools, authority, and support needed to keep our Capitol safe and secure for all. We commend each of the U.S. Capitol Police officers on their work in protecting this great institution and the millions of visitors each year.”
