Ranking Republican on House Admin Criticizes Democrats for Their Failure to Publicly Disclose Revised Campaign Finance Legislation Before Markup

WASHINGTON - Today, the Committee on House Administration's Ranking Republican Dan Lungren, R-Calif., issued the following statement on the Democrats' failure to publicly release the revised version of their campaign finance legislation before tomorrow's scheduled markup:

"Despite our calls for bipartisan collaboration, Democrats spent three months behind closed doors secretly drafting a bill they claimed would simply increase disclosure.  Yet, preliminary analyses of their first draft revealed an 84-page bill that unfairly and unevenly restricts organizations from engaging in political debate. 

"And now, ironically, they are refusing to publicly disclose the revised draft of their bill.  Perhaps it is because their bill, which they claim is merely about disclosure, is actually about silencing their critics.

"With less than 24 hours to go, Democrats are withholding details of legislation that is of great consequence to the American electorate. If the Democrats genuinely want to work together in a bipartisan fashion and improve transparency, they should share a copy of the revised bill with the public and their colleagues on the Committee at least 48 hours before the markup."
