WASHINGTON - Committee on House Administration Subcommittee on Modernization Chairwoman Stephanie Bice (OK-05) and Ranking Member Derek Kilmer (WA-06) today released the following statement after the Librarian of Congress announced a change in leadership at the Congressional Research Service (CRS):

“The Congressional Research Service plays a critical role in ensuring that Members of Congress and their staff can work effectively for the American people. It is in everyone’s best interest to ensure that CRS is functioning effectively and meeting the challenges of a more modern Congress.

"We thank Dr. Hayden and the Library of Congress for taking steps to ensure that CRS has strong leadership moving forward. We look forward to continuing to work with the agency and the Librarian to implement recommendations previously made by the Select Committee on the Modernization of Congress and make additional improvements to ensure the agency’s long-term success.”

On April 26, 2023, the Committee on House Administration Subcommittee on Modernization held a hearing on CRS. During the hearing, members brought to light some of the issues impacting the agency.
